Hurtubise: Orchestrating Chaos is an immersive dome experience by Normal Studio and Hippie Hourrah, co-produced with Simone Records and presented at the SAT's Satosphère and other domes. It opens up both the work of Canadian painter Jacques Hurtubise and the act of creation behind it.
In this 30 minutes film, the works are released from the frame, unfolding in 360° around the viewer, each painting becoming a space of its own.
For each period of Hurtubise's career, we matched an animation technique to his gesture and method at that time: deconstructing canvases into successive layers, or extending the gesture by animating the painting's internal dynamics. These six chronological acts are punctuated by archival recordings of the painter's voice, while Hippie Hourrah's original score sets the mood for each cycle. Deployed at the scale of the dome, painting is no longer observed but traversed.
